Recommerce Kiosk
Overview
ecoATM operates an automated retail machine network that provides payment for mobile phones and other electronic devices. When the company began its expansion internationally, there was a need to quickly manufacture more kiosks. Instead of producing the same dated kiosk models that were out in the field, the challenge to create a brand new generation of kiosks arose.
This was a multi-faceted project that I was fortunate to join from the conceptual stages and build from the ground up. My role is leading all customer-facing design elements and interactions, including everything from the touch screen’s user interface to industrial components such as the digital signage, LED lighting, and decal artwork.

The existing UI required an audit to identify screens and accompanying assets that needed to be redesigned or created to be relevant to the new kiosk.
Ensuring the new kiosk was accessible for all users was essential, not only to accommodate ease of use for all customer interactions, but also to satisfy regulatory compliance and meet ADA requirements.
In addition to having satisfactory reach and use, the kiosk had to enable those who are visually impaired and hard of hearing.

User Research
To learn more about the overall ease of use of the new generation kiosk, I led several research studies. One of the most valuable was a usability field study at a shopping center, it was a combination of observation and field intercepts where the team observed how actual customers interacted with the kiosk.
The aim for this and other research was to discover the effectiveness, efficiency, and user satisfaction of the new kiosk.
